Description |
Bacteriostatic Water (bacteriostatic water for injection) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol that is used to dilute or dissolve medications that can subsequently be administered by intravenous, intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. Bacteriostatic Water for Injection is supplied in a multiple-dose 30 mL fliptop vial that is plastic and not pressurized. It is not used for neonatal medications because of possible blood pressure changes and the toxicity of benzyl alcohol. The difference between bacteriostatic water and sterile water is sterile water for injection does not contain a bacteriostatic agent. As such, they are single-dose vials and should be discarded after a single use. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. - Sterile |
